For over two decades Brookline Village has been the home of Fitness Unlimited, a health club for women, conveniently located in the heart of the Village. Since 1980 the club has attracted a loyal membership – women of all ages with a variety of fitness goals and health needs. Just the right size, the club is large enough to provide all the equipment and facilities needed, yet intimate enough to provide personalized services and attention.
In May 2008 CC Maher bought the club and immediately put her 20 years of experience in the field of fitness & wellness to work.
Here CC shares her plans and vision for the new Benefitness Health Club for Women:
The club has always been a women's club, owned by a man. A fitness club for women, which is now owned and operated by a woman, is one that can be responsive to its members. I don't have to guess what a woman wants or needs from her fitness club.
First a name change. I wanted to have a name that incorporated the concept of wellness. So it made sense to use the same name of the corporate fitness and wellness company that I have owned and operated for the past 20 years.
Along with the name change I and the Benefitness Health Club staff spent thoughtful time generating a clear, compelling statement of the club's mission:
Benefitness is a health club for women of all ages dedicated to offering a private and comfortable setting in which members can best develop & achieve their own personal path to total well being.
We've listened to our members and have evaluated the equipment and facilities that have been here for several years. We've eliminated some machines, added others, and come up with a more functional spatial plan. The club has a fresh new look - new paint, flooring, locker room amenities, decorative touches - all designed to welcome and invigorate our members.
Benefitness offers over 50 diverse classes a week. Again, we've listened to our members and put together a schedule that offers a variety of approaches to all around fitness.
Our group exercise program offers the area's most inspiring classes and instructors. Our classes offer something for every age and ability – with everything from "lite" low impact aerobics to advanced kickboxing or yin yoga to hip hop dance or cycle. We genuinely care about our participants and provide a welcoming, non-competitive atmosphere where participants at every skill-level can feel comfortable and supported.
Benefitness instructors tend to stick around. Members will not find the constant turn over that is all too common at other clubs. This consistency allows students and instructors to work more effectively and not surprisingly - leads to better results.
Not to mention - our class schedule runs like clockwork.
